The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, acting on the advice of the National Security Council and through an Executive Instrument, has imposed a curfew on several communities in the Nkwanta South Municipality following a deadly attack that claimed three lives and left nine others injured.
The curfew takes effect from Friday, June 19, 2026, and will be enforced daily from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice.
The affected communities include Keri, Abrewanko, Abrewanko Junction, Nyambo, Nyambo Junction, Shari, Kromase, Power, Nyakoma, Odomi, Bonakye, and Nkwanta.
In a statement announcing the measures, the government appealed to chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth groups, and residents to remain calm and resolve their differences through peaceful means.
Authorities have also imposed a total ban on the possession and carrying of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons within the affected communities.
Security agencies warned that anyone found in possession of such weapons will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The latest restrictions follow a violent attack in Odomi on Thursday, June 18, 2026, which escalated tensions in the municipality and prompted swift government intervention.
Three people were killed in the incident, while nine others sustained gunshot wounds.
Government officials say the curfew and accompanying security measures are intended to restore calm, maintain public safety, and support ongoing efforts to address the situation in the area.
