The Dagbon Traditional Council has announced that the third-day Islamic prayers for the late Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Yaa-Naa Abukari II, will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
The prayers are scheduled to take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, with members of the public invited to join in praying for the repose of the late monarch’s soul.
The announcement follows the burial of Yaa-Naa Abukari II in the early hours of Monday, July 13, within the sacred grounds of the Gbewaa Palace, in accordance with Islamic rites and Dagbon customs.
In its statement announcing the King’s passing, the Dagbon Traditional Council described him as a unifying figure whose reign was characterised by a commitment to peace, harmony and the development of the Dagbon Kingdom.
The Council appealed to the people of Dagbon to honour his legacy by preserving peace and refraining from acts that could undermine unity during the mourning period.
It also called on Ghanaians and friends of Dagbon to join the kingdom in observing a period of reflection and prayer in memory of the late ruler.
According to the Council, details of the full funeral rites for Yaa-Naa Abukari II will be communicated at a later date in line with Dagbon tradition and royal protocol.
Ndan Yaa-Naa Abukari II, who also served as President of the Dagbon Traditional Council and the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
