Channel One TV and Citi FM have announced a month-long Healthy Living Project aimed at encouraging Ghanaians, particularly those in the middle class, to adopt practical and sustainable lifestyle habits to reduce the risk of lifestyle-related diseases.

The campaign, scheduled for September 2026, is themed “Changing Habits. Transforming Lives”, with the call “Ghana, Let’s Live Healthy Together.”

The initiative will use television, radio and digital platforms to provide practical guidance on healthy living, bringing together medical professionals, nutritionists, fitness experts and other specialists.

Introducing the project on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, August 26, Managing Director of the station, Samuel Attah-Mensah, encouraged listeners and viewers to embrace the challenge by making simple changes to their daily routines that can be sustained beyond the campaign.

The project will focus on lifestyle-related conditions including hypertension, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, stroke, fatty liver disease and certain cancers.

Organisers say the campaign is not about pursuing perfection but helping people make realistic and sustainable improvements to their everyday lives.

    Week One: Eat to Live

The first week, themed “Eat to Live – Food Is Medicine,” will examine the relationship between diet and health.

Discussions will focus on sugar, salt, portion sizes, vegetables, fibre, food labels, cooking methods and healthier ways of preparing familiar Ghanaian meals.

Participants will also be encouraged to take up the “One Healthy Plate Every Day” challenge throughout the month to make healthier food choices part of their daily routine.

    Week Two: Healthy Weight

Week Two will focus on weight management under the theme “Reset Your Body – Healthy Weight, Healthy Life.”

Experts will address issues including belly fat, calorie intake, late-night eating, intermittent fasting, fad diets and sustainable weight loss.

The organisers will emphasise that maintaining a healthy weight should be viewed primarily as a disease-prevention measure rather than an issue of appearance.

Participants will also be challenged to avoid sugary and carbonated drinks throughout September, encouraging them to reconsider habits that may contribute to poor health.

Week Three: Healthy Habits That Last

The third week, themed “Live Well for Life – Healthy Habits That Last,” will broaden the conversation to preventive healthcare and overall wellbeing.

Experts will discuss routine health checks, stress management, quality sleep, mental wellbeing, smoking, alcohol consumption and work-life balance.

Participants will also be encouraged to drink an appropriate amount of water each day, reinforcing the campaign’s emphasis on prevention and consistency.

    Week Four: Exercise and Movement

The final week, themed “Move for Life – Exercise Is the Best Prescription,” will focus on physical activity and demonstrate that staying fit does not necessarily require a gym membership or expensive equipment.

Topics will include walking, strength training, sleep and recovery, as well as the relationship between exercise and mental wellbeing.

Participants will be encouraged to complete 30 minutes of brisk walking every day.

The week will culminate in the Citi Business Olympics, giving participants an opportunity to translate the campaign’s lessons into practical, collective physical activity.

Through the four-week programme, Channel One TV and Citi FM aim to make healthy living more practical and accessible by helping audiences understand how everyday choices involving food, weight, stress, sleep and physical activity can influence long-term health and wellbeing.
