The Accra Technical University has been ranked the fourth-best university in Ghana and 28th out of 88 universities in the sub-region.

This was revealed in the pioneering Times Higher Education Sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings 2023, which were announced on June 26, 2023.

ATU is the only technical university in the country that joined the list, with Ashesi University, the University of Ghana and Academic City occupying the first to third positions, respectively.

The metrics for ranking comprised resources and finances, access and fairness, teaching skills, student engagement, and African impact.

Further, each of the five pillars has several metrics assigned to it, and the measurements are mostly based on a university’s impact on any of the 17 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

    Best in SDG

Last month, ATU was adjudged the best in SDG Research at the maiden SDGs Awards held at the La Palm Beach Hotel in Accra last month organised by the African Global Response Energy Environment Limited, a testament to the university’s commitment to innovative, sustainable and impactful research as an institution of higher learning.

According to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Amevi Acakpovi, “this award is a testimony of the dedication, commitment and hard work of management, staff, faculty and students of Accra Technical University.

“It is an encouragement towards the attainment of our university’s vision, which is “to be recognised as the top Technical University in Ghana, with strong regional influence”.

We take this award as a great motivation to continue working hard to deliver competent and qualified graduates on the global job market and to continuously excel in academic leadership,” he said.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings, sometimes known as the “THE Rankings”, are university rankings that are published annually by the Times Higher Education magazine.

It is frequently regarded as one of the most popular university rankings overall.
