The Bank of Ghana has dismissed reports suggesting that it is considering selling its newly commissioned headquarters, describing the claims as false and misleading.
The new facility, known as The Bank Square, was constructed starting in 2019 during the administration of the New Patriotic Party government and was officially commissioned in November 2024 by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. It replaced the Bank’s former headquarters, which officials had described as outdated and unsafe.
The central bank moved its operations to the new headquarters in September 2025.
The clarification follows a media report suggesting that the Bank of Ghana was planning to sell the building. However, in a statement issued on June 2, 2026, the Bank firmly denied the claim.
It stated that there are no discussions, plans, or considerations regarding the sale of the facility, stressing that the building remains a key asset essential to its operations and mandate.
The Bank further explained that the headquarters was designed to enhance operational efficiency and support its statutory functions.
It also cautioned the public and media to disregard unverified reports, warning that such misinformation could damage confidence in Ghana’s financial system and create unnecessary market uncertainty.
