The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, in partnership with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service, has announced a nationwide enforcement exercise targeting vehicles using outdated 2025 DV plates and expired DP stickers.
According to a public notice, the temporary extension granted for the use of 2025 DV plates and DP stickers—due to delays in introducing new licence plates—has now expired. Following the distribution of 2026 DV plates on February 4, 2026, to motor traders, fleet operators, and authorised dealers, continued use of the old plates and expired stickers is considered unlawful.
The Authority emphasized that the use of DV plates is governed by Regulation 23 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), which outlines the specific categories of vehicles permitted to use them. Motorists whose vehicles do not qualify are required to complete full registration in line with the law.
The DVLA further indicated that all its offices have been registering vehicles under the 2026 system since January 2 and urged vehicle owners to comply to avoid sanctions as the enforcement begins.
