The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is set to commence a GH¢240 million transformer upgrade project in parts of Accra, with scheduled power outages expected to accompany the works.
The initiative is aimed at enhancing the reliability of electricity supply in fast-growing communities across the capital.
As part of the project, ECG will upgrade twelve transformers across six major substations—Adenta, La, Teshie-Nungua, Nmai-Dzor, Baatsonaa, and Lashibi. The upgrades will increase transformer capacity from 20/26 MVA to 30/39 MVA, helping to ease pressure on the system and reduce recurring overloads.
ECG has indicated that the upgrade process will involve phased power interruptions in affected areas, including East Legon Hills, Nanakrom, Borteyman, Lakeside, Katamanso, Teshie, Nungua, Lashibi, Baatsonaa, and surrounding communities.
The outages will be implemented over three days, with each customer expected to experience up to six hours without electricity.
The first phase of the project is scheduled to run from Wednesday, April 8, to Friday, April 10, 2026.
