Ghana has concluded a bilateral debt restructuring agreement with Belgium, marking another milestone in its efforts to stabilize public finances after the 2022–2023 economic crisis.
At the signing ceremony, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson reflected on the difficult period that forced Ghana into a debt default, but emphasized that reforms and fiscal consolidation are now driving a significant turnaround.
Belgium becomes the eighth Official Creditor Committee (OCC) country to finalize a restructuring deal with Ghana.
Dr. Forson expressed gratitude to Belgium for its cooperation, noting that the agreement brings Ghana closer to completing its external debt restructuring programme.
Belgium’s Ambassador to Ghana, Carole van Eyll, commended Ghana’s progress toward macroeconomic stability and reaffirmed her country’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s recovery and strengthening bilateral cooperation.
