The Ghana Integrity Initiative has asked President Akufo-Addo to show leadership in the fight against corruption.

The call comes after a post-election survey conducted by CDD revealed that 62% of Ghanaians are not confident in the Nana Addo-led NPP government to protect the country’s financial resources and curb corruption in the next four years.

The Programs Director at the GII Mary Adda said president Akufo-Addo must sanction corrupt officials to deter others from engaging in corrupt practices.

“We should be able to protect them and let Ghanaians see that there are people of integrity and need to be protected. And when people do things that are despicable, that are in contravention of our laws, our leaders should be sanctioning and we as the community should also be naming and shaming.”

She further noted “somebody proposed that we should be naming streets after people that have been cited for some infractions to deter others from wanting to even engage. We should also ensure that our investigative bodies and also the processes of adjudication are also effective.”

“Leadership, commitment, and action is important when people are cited. The posturing of leadership and in this case I mean the President should show more leadership in actions rather than in words,” she added.
