The Governance for Inclusive Development (GovID) programme of German development agency, The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) ,  is collaborating with Ghana’s 16 Regional Coordinating Councils to provide digital competency skills training as a facilitator of the Government of Ghana’s Smart Workplace Concept.

It is one of many initiatives currently being rolled out in Ghana to improve the efficiency and quality of public service delivery.

More so, the  concept is geared towards improving collaboration, increasing productivity for workforces a thereby helping government organizations to make effective and optimal utilization of digital resources.

Given the disparities in digital competencies available at the national and sub-national levels of governance in Ghana, there is an urgent need to bridge the gap by providing frontline officers  human resources at the sub-national level with knowledge and skill sets that secure the benefits of the Smart Workplace Concept.

The REPOs and assistants are expected to serve as the focal point for further step-down trainings in digital competencies in their respective Regions, spreading the benefits of innovative work processes at the Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs) farther than themselves.

As a provider of technical advisory and expert training, GIZ-GovID has designed this hands-on and practical training to enhance the digital competency of 16 Regional Economic Planning Officers (REPOS) from across all 16 regions of Ghana and their assistants.

The training is designed to promote the government’s use of information and communication technology to provide and facilitate government services, information dissemination, communication transactions, and the integration of various stand-alone systems and services.

E-governance, when employed does not only lead to transparency, inclusiveness and efficiency in accessing government services by the citizenry but also , It reinforces democratic processes by creating and expanding opportunities for citizens to participate in state decision-making on issues decisions that affect their lives.

The internet and its associated technologies heralded the arrival of the digital age. As a result, it is critical for society and institutions, including governments, to reconsider their approaches to improving public service delivery through the use of cohesive technologies, hence the training .

The Governance for Inclusive Development is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in partnership with the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) with additional funding from the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.

Nationally, GovID assists the Ghana Revenue Authority with its reform processes and the development and revision of tax policies.
