The latest Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) report released by the Ghana Statistical Service has ranked several districts in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions among the best-performing districts in Ghana between 2021 and 2025 due to notable progress in living standards, education, healthcare, and employment.

According to the report, Ablekuma North Municipal emerged as the top-performing district nationwide, recording an average poverty rate of 8.5 percent over the five-year period and consistently remaining among the top ten districts each year.

Ablekuma West Municipal followed with an average poverty incidence of 8.6 percent, while Korle Klottey Municipal recorded 8.8 percent. Other highly ranked districts included La Dade-Kotopon Municipal and Tema West Municipal, reflecting the strong performance of urban municipalities in reducing multidimensional poverty.

Additional districts that featured prominently in the rankings were Ayawaso Central Municipal, Ayawaso West Municipal, Krowor Municipal, Ledzokuku Municipal, and Asokwa Municipal.

The findings highlighted the wide disparity between urban and rural poverty levels in Ghana, with municipalities in Greater Accra consistently recording lower poverty rates while many districts in northern Ghana continued to experience higher levels of deprivation.

The report further revealed that Ayawaso North Municipal recorded the lowest multidimensional poverty rate in the country in 2025 at 5.5 percent.

Officials from the Ghana Statistical Service indicated that the rankings will serve as an important tool for policy formulation, investment planning, and targeted social intervention programmes aimed at reducing poverty nationwide.

The report added that improved access to education, healthcare, sanitation, electricity, and employment opportunities played a major role in the strong performance of the top-ranked districts.
