The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has shut down the Elmina SSNIT Hotel in the Central Region for failing to meet the minimum requirements prescribed under Legislative Instrument 2239.
The enforcement action was carried out on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Following the closure, the GTA mounted notices at the hotel’s main entrance, reception and notice board informing the public that the facility had been shut down for failing to satisfy the required standards.
Speaking to 3News at the hotel premises after the exercise, Central Regional Director of the GTA, Charles Buabeng, said the facility had failed to meet the standards required under the relevant regulations.
The GTA also disclosed that the hotel had outstanding arrears spanning more than one year.
Mr. Buabeng directed management of the Elmina SSNIT Hotel to cease operations and advised members of the public not to patronise the facility until it satisfies all outstanding requirements.
He further cautioned hotel operators across the Central Region to ensure their facilities comply with the prescribed standards to avoid similar enforcement action.
Meanwhile, two other hotels and a restaurant in the Cape Coast Metropolis have also been closed down until further notice as part of the GTA’s enforcement exercise.
