Though rice is a major staple food consumed in Ghana, 66% of consumed rice in Ghana is often imported according to the Oxford Business Group.

There is a tremendous effort by the government and the private sector to grow local rice production.

One of such initiatives is the collaboration between WamiAgro and GrowForMe Limited to execute a project with 300 rice farmers at Asutsuare.

WamiAgro signed a contract with 300 rice farmers at Akuse to produce rice on a 140-hectare irrigable farm and also secured off-taker agreements with 5 rice distributors.

The cost of the project is in excess of GHS 700,000. In partnership with credible service and input providers to arrange favourable payment terms for the project, WamiAgro will manage the production and harvest the produce for sale.

Apart from its rice project, WamiAgro partners with financial institutions to provide farmers access to financial services such as credit, savings, pensions, and Insurance. It also provides the requisite training for smallholder farmers in areas of entrepreneurship, best farm practices, crop science, and linkages for farmers through contract buying and B2B e-commerce platform.
