Humanitarian organizations have been advised to strengthen their resources to address the pressing challenges of the vulnerable in society.
Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, who made the call, said, this has become necessary at a time when many countries, including the USA, had suspended numerous aid budgets, initiatives and programme for countries across the world.
This current happening, he said, posed a great challenge to countries receiving healthcare aids, educational and economic assistance from the United States and other European countries.
Prof Addai-Mensah was speaking at the Charter Presentation and Fundraising Dinner of the Kumasi-4 Garrison Rotary Club, and said charitable organizations must therefore work hard to reinforce activities to address the daunting challenges across the globe.
He was optimistic that institutions like Rotary remained a beacon of hope in the face of these challenges.
“Our vision to see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change in any possible way is what Rotary stands for.
The establishment and strengthening of Rotary Clubs in Ghana and across Africa are necessary, we must come together to fill up the gaps to ensure that the vulnerable among us receive the care, education and opportunities they deserve”, he said.
Prof Addai-Mensah said, “the direct impact of philanthropy and goodwill, a single act of kindness, the donation of medical supplies or a sponsorship of a child’s education can enhance the fortunes of an entire family”.
He mentioned that he, as a new charter member, would support the good works of the club, commending Rotary for their unwavering support to humanity.
Ms Florence Maame Hagen, Rotary District Governor, encouraged the new club members to engage with fellow clubs and Rotarians, leverage all the available resources and pursue sustainable, impactful projects that made a real difference in the lives of people.
They should embrace growth, stay curious, keep learning and continue seeking innovative ways to keep the club vibrant to address community challenges.
Mr Augustines Nkrumah Boateng, Charter President, Rotary Club of Kumasi-4 Garrison, said the Club was eager to serve communities, promote peace and foster understanding.
The ceremony was also used to raise funds towards the donation of computers and accessories to the Mansoman Senior High School and roofing of the Ntinanko M/A Primary and JHS.
