Ghanaian midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana has joined Italian Serie A side Sassuolo on loan from Atalanta until June 30, 2027.
The 23-year-old defensive midfielder completed the move on September 1, 2026, in a deal that keeps him in Serie A as he looks to gain regular first-team experience and continue his development.
The clubs have not disclosed details of any loan fee involved in the transfer.
Sulemana has already gained significant experience in Italian football despite his young age. He spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at Cagliari after starting the campaign with Bologna.
He joined Bologna during the first half of the season before returning to Atalanta in January and subsequently moving to Cagliari for the remainder of the campaign.
Sassuolo becomes his third loan destination since Atalanta signed him permanently from Cagliari in July 2024 for a reported €7.4 million.
Before his time at Cagliari, Sulemana developed at Hellas Verona after progressing through the club’s youth system, establishing himself as a promising defensive midfielder in Italy.
His move to Sassuolo offers another opportunity to compete for regular playing time in one of Europe’s major leagues. He will be expected to bring his defensive qualities and midfield strength to the Sassuolo setup.
Sulemana has yet to make an appearance for Atalanta in Serie A or the UEFA Conference League qualifying rounds during the opening fixtures of the 2026/27 campaign.
The loan move therefore provides the Ghana international with a fresh opportunity to secure consistent playing time and further develop his game.
With a full season ahead of him at Sassuolo, Sulemana will be hoping to establish himself as a regular first-team player and return to Atalanta in June 2027 as a more experienced and established midfielder.
His performances will also be closely followed in Ghana, where he remains part of the Black Stars’ pool of midfield options.
At 23, Sulemana has considerable room for further development, and a successful spell at Sassuolo could strengthen both his club prospects and his position within the national team.
