The Member of Parliament for Lawra, Bede Ziedeng, has cut sod for the construction of a GH¢1.5 million headteachers’ bungalow at Birifoh Senior High School aimed at improving accommodation and administrative efficiency within the district’s education sector.

The project forms part of ongoing efforts to address infrastructure deficits at the Birifoh Senior High School, which has faced persistent challenges since its establishment in the Upper West Region.

Addressing attendees ahead of the sod-cutting ceremony, Ziedeng emphasised that the government, in collaboration with key stakeholders, remains resolute in scaling up infrastructure at the school to keep pace with its increasing enrolment.

He noted that the school, being one of the relatively new senior high institutions in the region, started with limited facilities, necessitating continuous intervention.

The MP noted that the bungalow forms part of critical interventions he has secured through the Ghana Education Trust Fund to improve conditions at the school. He disclosed that he had lobbied for two key projects this year: the headmaster’s bungalow and a multipurpose dining hall complex with an attached kitchen.

“Today I came to inspect the completed projects, the ongoing projects and to cut sod for the commencement of the construction of the headmaster’s bungalow which is another critical infrastructure for the school.

“Indeed, I lobbied the Administrator of the Getfund for two critical projects for the school for this year, the headmaster’s bungalow and a multipurpose dining hall complex with a kitchen attached,” the MP said.

“The sod-cutting of the dining hall complex will take place on a different date in the second week of April 2026. Let me quickly use the opportunity to thank the Administrator of the Getfund Mr. Paul Adjei for his massive support without which we could not have achieved this. I also thank the people of Brifoh and for that matter the constituents of Lawra for their support and the trust they have reposed in me.”

The headmaster, Iddrisu Harrisu appealed for the provision of a pickup vehicle to support and enhance administrative operations at the school.

He explained that the absence of a dedicated vehicle continues to hinder effective supervision, monitoring of academic activities, and coordination of school-related duties, particularly those that require movement beyond the campus.

The Chief of Birifoh, Naa Debomo Victor, called for the construction of a fence wall around Birifoh Senior High School to prevent encroachment and enhance security for students, staff, and the headmaster.

He also drew attention to the Birifoh Technical Institute, lamenting the lack of infrastructure since its establishment in 2021 despite the dedication of teachers operating under challenging conditions.

The project has been awarded to L.K James firm and he is expected to finish the project in 12 months. The contractor, Luoteng James, indicated that he has been into construction for the past 3 years, highlighting his experience of completing projects with quality and within schedule.
