    UAE Launches Emergency Humanitarian Aid for Ghana Flood Victims

    The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched an urgent humanitarian relief operation to support thousands of people affected by the devastating floods that struck parts of Ghana on June 29, 2026.

    The intervention, announced in a Facebook post by UAE Times on Thursday, July 23, follows directives from UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and is being coordinated through the UAE Aid Agency.

    According to the announcement, the UAE is providing essential food supplies and emergency shelter materials to thousands of families affected by the disaster in an effort to ease the humanitarian crisis.

    The UAE said the assistance reflects its continued commitment to international humanitarian relief and disaster response, reaffirming its support for communities affected by natural disasters around the world.

    Floods caused widespread devastation

    The June 29 floods, triggered by several hours of torrential rainfall, caused extensive destruction across the Greater Accra, Volta and Central regions.

    Entire communities were inundated, homes and businesses were destroyed, and key infrastructure—including roads and public facilities—suffered significant damage.

    According to available figures:

    • More than 131,000 people were affected;
    • 45 people lost their lives;
    • Nearly 40,000 residents were displaced; and
    • Thousands of families were left in urgent need of food, shelter and other essential supplies.

    Support to complement national relief efforts

    The UAE’s humanitarian assistance is expected to complement ongoing relief and recovery operations being led by the Government of Ghana, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other humanitarian organisations working to assist affected communities.

    The additional support is expected to help provide immediate relief to vulnerable families while contributing to broader efforts to restore livelihoods and accelerate recovery in flood-affected areas.
