Mr. Emmanuel Agbaxode, the Volta/Oti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has called on the public, particularly residents of the Volta Region, to rally behind the leadership to ensure rapid regional development.

Speaking during a congratulatory message to Mr. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister-designate, Mr. Agbaxode emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration, urging the people to put aside their political differences for the greater good.  “After elections, it is important to leave our differences behind and focus on supporting whoever is appointed to lead the region. Development requires collective effort, and our leaders cannot do it alone,” he said.

Mr. Agbaxode commended President John Dramani Mahama for considering Mr. Gunu, a journalist and experienced public servant, as the Volta Regional Minister-designate. He expressed optimism about the nominee’s approval by the vetting committee, noting that his track record as the first District Chief Executive of Akatsi North and his experience in local governance made him the right person for the job.

“The nomination of Mr Gunu is a great opportunity for the region, and I urge everyone to support him. The voting process and its challenges are over, and the focus now should be on how we can assist him to deliver on his mandate and bring government projects and policies that will benefit the region,” he said.

Mr. Agbaxode highlighted the need for unity and cooperation in achieving development goals. He noted that supporting regional leaders, regardless of political affiliations, was crucial for implementing initiatives that will improve the lives of people in the region.

“There is no point in harbouring divisions. The Minister-Designate has already been nominated and is awaiting parliamentary approval. Instead of opposing, let us come together to help him succeed in moving the region forward,” he said.

The GJA Regional Chairman encouraged stakeholders, including traditional leaders, civil society organizations, and the public to actively engage with the new leadership to address the region’s challenges.  “Development is a shared responsibility. We all have a role to play in ensuring that the Volta Region progresses. Let’s work together to achieve this,” he said.

Mr. Agbaxode’s remarks come at a time when expectations are high for the region’s development under the leadership of Mr. Gunu. Many are optimistic that with the right support and collaboration, significant progress could be made in improving infrastructure, education, and economic opportunities in the region.
