A new music discovery initiative known as Lights of Africa is set to tour three universities in Accra, offering students a high-energy platform to showcase their musical talent and potentially launch careers in the entertainment industry.
The event is designed as more than a competition, focusing on discovering fresh voices, unique sounds, and emerging performers through live auditions, performances, and real-time judging.
On the first day, dubbed the “Sound Hunt,” judges will move around campuses to identify hidden talent. Selected students will be invited to perform original music and demonstrate their artistic abilities before advancing to the next stage.
Contestants will be assessed based on vocal performance, originality, stage presence, audience connection, and overall delivery. The most outstanding performers will move on to the next round.
The second day, known as the “Uprising Stage,” will feature live performances in front of a packed audience. Unlike the audition phase, this stage will combine full performances with audience interaction and voting, alongside judges’ scores to determine standout acts.
The initiative is expected to feature multiple music genres including Afrobeats, Highlife, Rap, R&B, Dancehall, and Alternative music, giving room for diverse creative expression.
Organisers say the project aims to empower young creatives by taking talent discovery directly to campuses and connecting emerging artists with industry stakeholders, media personalities, and entertainment enthusiasts.
With growing interest in Ghana’s youth music culture, the Lights of Africa campus tour is expected to create a vibrant platform where underground talent can gain visibility and transition into the mainstream entertainment space.
