The Ministry of Education has strongly condemned acts of violence caught on viral videos during the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru.

In a statement signed by Deputy Minister Clement Abas Apaak, the Ministry described the incidents as unacceptable and directed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service to launch an immediate investigation. The Director-General has been instructed to meet the Central Regional Director, relevant district directors, and the heads of the two schools involved at 10:00 a.m. on February 23, 2026, at GES headquarters in Accra.

The Ministry emphasized that the perpetrators will face severe sanctions once the investigation concludes.

The incident occurred on February 19 during an inter-schools athletics competition and involved students from Obrachire Senior High Technical School and Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS). Eyewitnesses reported that tensions escalated, resulting in a physical attack on a student from Obrachire Senior High Technical School, who was struck with sticks and pelted with stones before bystanders intervened.

The injured student was taken to a health facility and is currently receiving treatment. The Ghana Police Service has also opened an investigation into the incident.
