Alhaji Misbahu Adams Mahama, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mion Constituency in the Northern Region, has launched an educational fund with an initial GH¢400,000 allocation to support education in the area over the next four years.

The fund, dubbed Zaabuni Education Fund, expected to benefit 100 students in its first phase, is designed to assist, especially needy learners to access quality education and contribute to the holistic development of the district.

Launching the initiative at Sang, the MP said the fund formed part of his commitment to addressing the educational needs of the people and securing a brighter future for the constituency.

Alhaji Mahama recounted some of his interventions in the education sector, including securing GETFund support for 25 students, lobbying for Ghana Local Scholarships for beneficiaries in the district, and supporting the Jilma community to construct a self-help school.

He said he had also assisted the Kulinkpegu and Mbatinga communities to build teachers’ quarters, provided GH¢10,000 to Sang Senior High School (SHS) for its inter-houses’ competition, and supported the school with GH¢5,000 to transport examination materials from Yendi.

Outlining future projects scheduled to commence in 2025, Alhaji Mahama said plans were in place to expand the ICT laboratory at Sang Community Day SHS, provide a bus and a pickup vehicle for the school, and work towards upgrading it into a boarding institution.

He disclosed that efforts were underway to recruit teachers from within the district to address staffing shortages and minimize transfers outside the constituency.

Other interventions include the donation of a hand-pump borehole to Sang SHS, construction of a three-unit classroom block at Tinsung, completion of an abandoned six-unit GETFund classroom block at Tambabu, and renovation of a six-unit classroom block at Dombini.

He further pledged to construct a Kindergarten block at Kayong, a six-unit classroom block and teachers’ bungalow at Kayang, another six-unit block at Nanduli, and a three-unit classroom block at Kpumi.

Alhaji Mahama urged the media and other stakeholders to monitor and follow up on the projects to ensure transparency and accountability.
