The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sunday ended nearly three decades of political dominance by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Okaikwei South Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

Ernest Adomako, widely known as KEON, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate, secured a historic victory despite delays in announcing the results at the collation centre at Accra Academy within the constituency.

KEON defeated Darkoa Newman, the NPP candidate, with a total of 32,691 votes out of 56,954 valid votes cast.

    Newman received 24,263 votes.

In his address to a jubilant crowd of supporters, KEON, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South, promised to establish an education fund for constituents, repair dilapidated roads, and collaborate with President-elect John Dramani Mahama to implement a 24-hour economy, along with other policies he had promised during his campaign.

The victory of the young businessman turned politician triggered celebrations across the constituency, especially after the extended delay in the collation and declaration process.

Voters shared their reasons for choosing KEON over Darkoa Newman.

“For the past eight years, Darkoa Newman has failed to represent us properly in Parliament. There has been no significant development since she became MP,” said Adowa, a local resident.

“She doesn’t connect with us. We at the grassroots level feel neglected,” added Moses Sowah, another voter.
