Workers of the National Identification Authority are expected to begin an industrial action on May 13, 2026, over delays in the approval and implementation of migration reports linked to staff conditions of service.

The planned strike was announced by the Public Services Workers’ Union in a letter dated May 6, 2026, addressed to the National Labour Commission and the NIA.

According to the union, the action follows prolonged delays in implementing the migration exercise for NIA staff despite the approval of the Scheme of Service in July 2024 and the start of the migration process in December 2024.

The union explained that the delay has prevented staff from receiving proper placements, corresponding salaries, and outstanding promotions tied to the migration exercise.

In the statement, the union noted that nearly two years after the Scheme of Service was approved, the Ministry of Finance had yet to authorise payment implementation despite the completion and submission of all required reports.

The union said it had repeatedly engaged management and other relevant stakeholders in efforts to resolve the issue, but the necessary approvals had still not been secured.

It warned that the continued delay risks disrupting the previously stable industrial relations atmosphere within the authority.

Although management had assured workers that follow-up engagements were ongoing, the union stated that employees had resolved through internal decision-making structures to proceed with the strike if the approvals are not granted by May 13, 2026.
