Paul Afoko has begun a second round of consultations with senior figures in the New Patriotic Party as part of efforts to strengthen his campaign for the party’s national chairmanship position.
As part of the engagements, Afoko met with former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate Mahamudu Bawumia, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
The latest consultations follow earlier meetings with all five presidential aspirants ahead of the NPP’s January 31, 2026 primaries, including Bryan Acheampong, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and Yaw Osei Adutwum.
Sources close to Afoko say the ongoing stakeholder engagements are aimed at rebuilding unity within the party following its defeat in the 2024 general elections and ahead of the upcoming National Delegates Conference.
Afoko, who previously served as NPP National Chairman between 2014 and 2015, is campaigning on what he describes as a “3R Agenda” — Reunite, Rebuild, and Recapture — which he says will guide the party back to power in 2028.
According to members of his team, the consultations are intended to draw on the experience of past leaders and strengthen internal consensus within the party.
Party insiders view the meetings with Dr Bawumia and Akufo-Addo as especially significant due to their continued influence within the NPP, while the engagement with former President Kufuor is seen as an effort to reinforce party unity and institutional memory.
Afoko is also reported to have urged party members to avoid internal blame following the 2024 election loss and instead focus on rebuilding cohesion and strengthening the party’s structures.
The consultations come after earlier meetings with the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders and regional executives in Kumasi as part of his broader nationwide outreach to party stakeholders.
