The Health Committee of Parliament is expected to meet today, Thursday, May 7, with the committee that investigated the circumstances surrounding the death of Charles Amissah.

The investigative committee concluded in its report that Amissah’s death resulted from medical neglect, a finding that has sparked widespread public concern and renewed calls for accountability within the healthcare system.

The report also recommended disciplinary action against health professionals found to have been involved in the incident.

Ahead of the meeting, committee member Dr Thomas Anaba emphasised the importance of implementing the report’s recommendations to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Speaking to Citi News, Dr Anaba stated that the Ministry of Health must take a leading role in ensuring the recommendations are enforced.

He argued that weak enforcement of regulations and sanctions remains a major challenge in Ghana, particularly in sectors where negligence can lead to loss of life.

Dr Anaba further stressed that healthcare workers who violate directives—such as refusing patients treatment because of a lack of beds—should face punishment, noting that stronger enforcement would encourage greater responsibility and compliance within the health sector.
