The Ghanaian University partaking in 2019/2020 well renowned global Hult Prize competition, Pentecost University College (PUC) has on Tuesday, 1st October locally launched the competition on the University’s campus in Accra.

The global competition kick started in September when the 55th President of the United States of America, Bill Clinton announced the topic for this year’s competition, thus, “Can we build bold businesses that have positive impact on our planet with every sale completed, dollar earned and decision made?”

The Hult Prize is a competition in partnership with the United Nations to find solutions to pressing social problems that are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).

The competition gives opportunities to college students to bring ideas to solve the challenge and compete for a prize of US$1M for the winning team to initiate the solution to the problem.

Addressing the students at the event, the PUC Hult Prize Campus Director, Dr. Joseph Kofi Asante elaborated on the stages of the competition and how the student can form teams and apply to compete in the challenge.

“This year the on campus programme will have interested students participate in the competition, you can form groups of at least three or at most five and come up with initiative solutions towards the challenge. So once you come up with the solutions, you will pitch the ideas and the team whose idea wins goes to the regional competition that happens in several countries”

Honoring the launch as guest speaker, Reverend Edward Agyekum Kufuor admonished the students to take up the opportunity Hult Prize is presenting to them to harness their capabilities and get the exposure the competition brings.

“Local students who participate get the chance to meet and be mentored by great successful entrepreneurs and to get their business ideas to see the light of day. You don’t only get a chance to participate but also prepare for the future. I encourage you all to be a part of this, be innovative, think outside the box and make a change.”

In his closing remarks to bring the launch to an end, the Campus Director hinted that Pentecost University College is set and poised to bring the winning prize home and make Ghana proud.
