Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim in the Western region, Dr Prince Hamid Armah entreats Ghanaians not to see the ongoing 2021 population and housing census as a mere academic exercise but an important national assignment that will help the government to generate the needed data to enable it to plan the development of the country with precision.

Dr Prince said, “Indeed, it appears to be an academic exercise because the data is usually used by the literate community and so the other sections of the population who have no need for the use of the data may not be able to see the relevance of it.”

He further said, “For any developing country to plan well, it must have impeccable data to enable it to plan and take major decisions with a high degree of accuracy. No serious country can develop if the data is not reliable, not valid and the process of generating data is not transparent and fair”.

Speaking to TV3 after being enumerated, Dr Armah said, “it took just five minutes to get done with everything and the process is very smooth and straightforward. The questions are also specific and direct”.

Dr Armah, doubling as the Vice Chairman of the Education Committee in Parliament, explained that, “with the correct data, the government is able to estimate the population and determine the social amenities that are required. In doing so, we won’t put undue pressure on existing social infrastructure”

Gideon Quayson, the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal census official, who also spoke to TV3 after the enumeration of the MP, expressed confidence that the exercise will record a 100% success rate in the municipality.

Dr Armah pleaded with his constituents to avail themselves for the exercise to help generate accurate data that the government can rely on in its development planning agenda.
