President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched construction of one of Africa’s largest float glass manufacturing plants in Shama, Western Region. The $250 million project expands KEDA (Ghana) Ceramic Company Limited’s investments in Ghana and is expected to produce 1,400 tonnes of glass daily once fully operational.

KEDA has already invested over $300 million in tile and sanitary ware production over the past decade. The float glass facility, born out of strategic talks between the Government and company officials in China, will be completed in two phases: the first by August next year with 600 tonnes per day capacity, and the second adding 800 tonnes to reach 1,400 tonnes.

At the sod-cutting ceremony, which also marked the inauguration of Phase Five of KEDA’s tile line and the commissioning of its sanitary ware factory, President Mahama emphasized the project’s alignment with Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy Policy, AfCFTA, and other industrial initiatives.

Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofori-Adjare praised the government’s investor-friendly policies that made the project possible, while KEDA Ghana’s Managing Director Li Wei highlighted the company’s long-term commitment to Ghana as its largest investment destination in Africa.

The facility is expected to create over 1,400 direct jobs and 3,000 indirect jobs, boosting employment, tax revenue, and industrial growth. Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson reaffirmed the region’s drive to transform natural resource wealth into sustainable local development.

KEDA Ghana’s latest venture cements its role as one of the largest foreign investors in Ghana’s manufacturing sector, signaling growing confidence in the country’s industrial potential.
