AFTER constructing a USD35,000 two-bedroom staff bungalow for the their alma master, members of the 1979 year group of the Sogakope Senior High School (SOGASCO’79) are to establish a scholarship scheme for needy brilliant students of the school.

They held a meeting in Ho last week Saturday to discuss the plan for the scheme which is to be launched later this year.

President of the SOGASCO’79, De-Kuza Akwetey told The Mirror after the meeting that the group had raised a “substantial amount in dollars” as seed money for the scheme.

“We are determined to ensure that no brilliant student drops out of school as a result of financial difficulties,” he explained.

Mr Akwetey said students who excelled in their terminal examinations would be rewarded under the scheme.

Meanwhile, he said the year group, which currently had 47 registered members, had embarked on a move to trace other members and register them as well to expand  membership and raise more money for the scheme and other development projects on the school compound.

Mr Akwetey said the group was also looking into  providing more decent toilets for the school and taking up a project to complete the perimeter fence around the institution.

“We need a decent environment with utmost discipline on the school compound all the time to ensure high academic standards,” he added.
