Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has officially welcomed newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz with the presentation of a traditional smock, commonly known as “fugu.”
The symbolic gesture took place during the coach’s introduction to the Minister and was intended to reflect Ghana’s cultural identity while integrating the Portuguese tactician into the national fold.
According to the Minister, the presentation highlights the significance of the Ghana national football team to the country and underscores expectations that the coach embraces both the sporting and cultural aspects of his role.
He noted that the gift serves as a sign of acceptance, emphasising that the coach is now part of the Ghanaian community and entrusted with leading a team that holds deep national importance.
In response, Queiroz expressed gratitude for the warm reception, describing it as a meaningful honour. He also pointed to his African background, having been born and raised in Mozambique, and said guiding Ghana to the FIFA World Cup would be a defining achievement in his career.
The meeting marks one of the coach’s first official engagements as he begins preparations with the Black Stars ahead of upcoming international competitions.
