A late strike from João Palhinha secured a crucial victory for Tottenham Hotspur—their first in the Premier League since December—but did little to ease their relegation worries.
Despite Spurs’ narrow win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, results elsewhere meant they remain third from bottom, two points from safety with just four matches left. A dramatic 2-1 victory for West Ham United over Everton—sealed by an injury-time goal from Callum Wilson—denied Spurs a chance to climb out of the drop zone.
Tottenham, managed by Roberto De Zerbi, struggled for quality for much of the match but found a breakthrough late on when Palhinha converted from close range. Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky then made a crucial stoppage-time save to deny João Gomes and secure the win.
However, the victory was tempered by injuries to key players, including Dominic Solanke and Xavi Simons.
For Wolves, whose relegation had already been confirmed earlier in the week, the defeat marked a third consecutive loss. Manager Rob Edwards will now be focused on ending the season on a positive note and building momentum ahead of the next campaign.
Tottenham’s situation remains precarious. Despite showing resilience to grind out a result, their overall performance lacked attacking sharpness, and they will need significant improvement in their remaining fixtures against Aston Villa, Leeds, Chelsea, and Everton if they are to avoid relegation.
With just four games left, the battle for survival is still wide open—but Spurs are hanging on by a thread.
