The 1991 Year Group of the St John’s Grammar Senior High School old students’ association (JOSA) at Achimota in the Greater Accra Region has presented items worth GH¢49,000 to its alma mater to support academic activities of the school.

The items comprised 80 mono desks, bed sheets, detergents and a signpost.

Before handing over the items on behalf of the group, the President of JOSA 1991, Superintendent of Police, Olivia Turkson, said the group was making the donation as part of its social responsibility to create a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning in the school.

She said the items were made available through the contributions of members both in the country and the diaspora who had seen the need to give back to the school after 31 years of exiting.

“We contacted the management of the school and made them know of our intention to give back to our alma mater and they gave us the list of what they needed as a school, which we are providing today,” said Supt Turkson, who doubles as the Sogakope Divisional Police Commander.

She commended the management of the school for their continuous efforts in improving education in the country and assured them of the group’s continuous support to the school to help them achieve their mandate.

Supt. Turkson urged the management of the school to maintain the items to expand their lifespan.

She urged the students to shun bad company and concentrate on their books.

After receiving the items, the Assistant Head of Administration of the school, Rev. Dr Betty Baidoo, on behalf of the school management, commended members of the 1991 JOSA Year Group for the gesture.

“The donation to the school is commendable; after 31 years of leaving school, you have come back to assist your alma mater in their activities,” she said.

Rev. Baidoo, who is also the chaplain of the school, reiterated the need for old students to come together to show appreciation to their alma mater for moulding them into responsible adults.
