Residents of Teshie Maamli in the Ledzokuku Constituency are expressing strong opposition to the Ministry of Health’s plan to suspend clinical services at the Teshie Community Clinic for renovations.

Locals argue that halting these services could pose a serious risk to the health and well-being of the community.

An official letter dated October 18 and signed by Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye outlined the need to temporarily relocate clinical services from the Teshie Community Clinic to facilitate essential upgrades.

The letter noted that Teshie’s growing population has placed a heavy demand on the clinic, which is currently unable to adequately serve the community due to outdated infrastructure.

Although the clinic has a dedicated healthcare team, the facility itself needs improvements to handle patient needs safely and effectively.

The Ministry of Health emphasised that this renovation aims to enhance the clinic’s safety and capacity, and it has directed the Ghana Health Service to identify a temporary location for clinical services.

However, Teshie Maamli residents who depend on the clinic for their healthcare say the timing of the decision could lead to severe repercussions for the community.

Local assembly members in the Ledzokuku Constituency argue that stopping clinical services at the clinic without an immediate nearby alternative could disrupt access to healthcare for residents.

Nuumo Kumi III, the linguist for the Teshie Maamli Wulomo, emphasised that the clinic renovation should remain a non-political matter, prioritising community welfare.
