Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service have rescued 17 victims following a fatal road accident at Woadze near Kpeve along the Kpeve–Asikuma road in the Volta Region.

According to the Fire Service, the accident occurred on Friday, May 22, 2026. Officers from the Peki Fire Station responded after receiving a distress call at about 7:58 p.m.

The crash involved a Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle with registration number GR 8231 C, which was travelling from Abotuase to Ningo in the Greater Accra Region.

The vehicle was carrying 20 passengers, including 11 men, five women, and four children. Fire officers managed to rescue 13 adults and four children who were trapped in the badly damaged vehicle.

The Service confirmed that three adults — two men and one woman — died in the accident.

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Ambulance Service assisted in transporting the injured and deceased to the Kpando Government Hospital and Peki Government Hospital for treatment and further investigations.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash, while the Fire Service has urged motorists to obey road safety regulations and avoid speeding.
