    Team Ghana has arrived safely in Glasgow, Scotland, ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with athletes, coaches and officials expressing confidence of delivering strong performances and competing for medals.

    Ghana will compete across nine disciplines:

    • Athletics
    • Para Athletics
    • Boxing
    • Cycling
    • Judo
    • Weightlifting
    • Swimming
    • Para Swimming
    • Para Powerlifting

    The team heads into the Games after months of intensive preparation, including training camps and qualification events held in Ghana, Derby Arena in the United Kingdom, and Ireland.

    Blend of experience and emerging talent

    The Ghanaian contingent features a mix of experienced international athletes and promising newcomers making their Commonwealth Games debut.

    Among the athletes expected to lead Ghana’s medal challenge are:

    • Joseph Paul Amoah, Ghana’s 100-metre record holder and team captain;
    • Sprinter Saminu Abdul-Rasheed;
    • Para cyclist Botso Nkegbe;
    • Baton bearer Haruna Tahiru; and
    • Several other athletes competing across the various disciplines.

    The athletes are expected to complete their final acclimatisation sessions before competition begins, with confidence high throughout the camp.

    Team determined to compete for medals

    Team Manager Richard Quarcoo expressed satisfaction with the delegation’s safe arrival, saying the athletes are in good spirits and fully focused on representing Ghana with distinction.

    “We have arrived safely, the athletes are in good spirits and everyone understands the responsibility that comes with wearing the national colours. We have prepared well and our objective is to compete fearlessly and fight for podium places. We ask Ghanaians everywhere to keep believing in and supporting Team Ghana,” he said.

    CGA President optimistic of success

    President of the Commonwealth Games Association of Ghana (CGA), Richard Akpokavie, described the team’s arrival as the beginning of Ghana’s quest for excellence at the Games.

    He commended the athletes and technical officials for their dedication throughout the preparation period and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to compete with the best athletes across the Commonwealth.

    “Our preparations have been deliberate and athlete-centred. We are confident that Team Ghana possesses the quality, resilience and determination to compete with the very best in the Commonwealth. We are here to represent Ghana with honour and to return home with performances that will make every Ghanaian proud,” he said.

    Government and partners pledge support

    Mr Akpokavie also acknowledged the support of the Government of Ghana, the Ministry responsible for Sports and Recreation, and corporate partners including GCB Bank PLC and the Eeezy Group Foundation, whose contributions helped make Ghana’s participation possible.

    He revealed that the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, and members of Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports are expected to visit Team Ghana in Glasgow to encourage the athletes ahead of their respective events.

    Ready for Glasgow 2026

    With preparations now entering their final phase, coaches are fine-tuning tactics while athletes familiarise themselves with the competition venues.

    Team Ghana enters the Games determined to build on the nation’s proud Commonwealth Games history by winning medals and inspiring the next generation of Ghanaian sportsmen and women.

    As competition gets underway on Friday, the delegation remains confident, focused and committed to delivering podium finishes that will make Ghana proud.
