Universal Merchant Bank’s (UMB) S.P.E.E.D. Stars have emerged as champions of the 2026 Bankers Football Gala after overcoming competition from seven other banks.
The UMB team secured the title on Saturday, August 29, 2026, following a campaign marked by discipline, teamwork and composure under pressure.
Throughout the tournament, the S.P.E.E.D. Stars maintained their organisation and remained composed during crucial stages of the competition, navigating the knockout rounds before emerging as champions.
UMB attributed the team’s success to “grit, teamwork and the UMB spirit”, values the bank says continue to define its culture both on and off the pitch.
The Bankers Football Gala serves as a platform for camaraderie, networking and healthy competition among players and staff within Ghana’s banking sector.
For UMB, however, the victory also reflects the importance the bank places on discipline, collaboration and resilience, qualities it believes extend beyond the workplace.
The triumph comes amid a broader push by UMB to deepen its involvement in football. In May 2026, the bank signed a three-year partnership with the Ghana Football Association to support the national teams, domestic competitions, women’s football and youth development.
