A new organic fertiliser that generates a higher and healthy yield for farmers and provides a cushion for small and medium-scale agro-processors in the country has been certified by the Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRSD) of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

Comcat, which is from Germany and powdery, was tried and tested by farmers in the Volta, Western and Oti regions, as well as in the northern belts of the country and can be applied to both trees, crops and bouquets.

“It is so economical that nine grammes can be put into a knapsack containing 16 litres of water to spray an entire farm.

A hundred grammes of Comcat can cover three acres of land,” Mr Hope Nyadi, the Managing Director of Winstep Company Limited, told the Graphic Business in an exclusive interview in Accra yesterday.

According to research, the fertiliser is also capable of reviving dead farmlands.

Mr Nyadi demonstrated the chemical’s prowess with videos and photographs of various staple foods such as rice, maize, cassava, vegetables and cocoa farms on which the fertiliser had been used, and described its unique feature as fully organic and human friendly.

“All you need is to pour this powder into a knapsack containing water and spray it on stems, leaves and roots of crops and they will multiply in excess,” he stated.

Urging the youth to go into farming, Mr Nyadi also revealed that the produce of crops that apply Comcat has longer shelf lives and pledged to support young farmers with the product.

He affirmed that the chemical is environmentally friendly and non-toxic.

“Comcat stimulates important metabolic processes, photosynthesis and respiration in plants and crops and also reduces the stress load on the crop,” he noted.
