Mr. John Dramani Mahama, Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) has appealed to factions in the Bawku conflict to allow peace to prevail.

He urged aggrieved parties to “exercise restraint” and “silence the weapons,” following renewed clashes in the area.

“Resolving the Bawku conflict will be one of my first priorities when I become President,” he stated in his address at the NDC Governance Forum held in Accra on Thursday.

The forum, on the theme “Resetting Ghana for Good Governance and Accountability,” saw Mr. Mahama outlining several governance policies he plans to implement across various sectors if elected on December 7.

He said that the next NDC administration would ensure “adequate safety” for all citizens to support the success of the “24-hour Economy” agenda.

Mr. Mahama said that security services and related agencies would be properly resourced and motivated to fulfill their mandates effectively.

“Ours will be a government that ensures that promotions are based on merit and correct the injustice in promotions across the security services,” he said.

Mr. Mahama added that the next NDC government would review compensation packages for security personnel who lose their lives or injure themselves in the line of duty.

He encouraged the men and women in uniform to abide by their oath of office, maintain peace before, during and after the general elections.

“I am confident that the Special Voting Day will herald the tone for our resounding victory in this year’s elections because the category of voters taking part in the Special Voting, just like millions of Ghanaians, feel the hardship that has been imposed by the reckless mismanagement of this economy,” he said.

Mr. Mahama expressed his commitment to restoring “confidence” in Ghana’s democratic institutions and urged the electorate to “reject” the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Election Day.
