A devastating rainstorm has left the Tutukpene community in the Nkwanta South Region reeling, after ripping off the roof of the community’s only basic school.
The storm caused widespread destruction, exposing classrooms and destroying vital learning materials.
The extent of the damage was revealed during a visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), showing the dire situation facing students, teachers, and residents.
Mr Francis Adu, the Assembly member for the area has appealed for urgent support from the Nkwanta South Assembly, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Non-governmental Organisations and private institutions, to restore the school’s facilities.
Mr Adu emphasised the need for immediate intervention, saying that the damage puts the education of pupils at risk.
The School’s Management Committee (SMC) members and community leaders have also called on stakeholders to prioritise the safety and well-being of the children, by assisting in the swift restoration of the school.
They said the incident highlights the vulnerability of schools in rural areas to natural disasters, underscoring the need for urgent support to ensure the continuous education of affected students.
