Stanbic Bank Ghana has donated GH¢141,251.50 to support the construction of a modern parade ground for the Ho Police Training School in the Volta Region, reaffirming its commitment to national security and institutional development.

The financial support is part of the bank’s broader corporate social responsibility efforts and was officially presented by Mr. Harry Opoku-Agyemang, Head of Personal Banking at Stanbic Bank, to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) William Yankee Acolatse, the Commandant of the Training School.

Mr. Opoku-Agyemang commended the Ghana Police Service for its tireless role in maintaining law and order, emphasising that peace and security are fundamental to national growth.

“No nation can thrive without peace and order,” he said. “As a bank that operates across Ghana, we value safety and security as critical enablers of economic development. The work of the police is not only vital but foundational to building a prosperous country.” He explained that the donation is not just about infrastructure but a show of appreciation for the sacrifices police personnel makes daily in the line of duty.

“Sometimes you risk your lives just to protect the rest of us. That is why we see it as essential to support your training needs. A well-trained officer is key to ensuring the safety of every citizen,” he noted.

Mr. Opoku-Agyemang further stated that Stanbic Bank’s purpose is rooted in national growth, adding that supporting human capital development, particularly within the security sector, aligns perfectly with their vision.

He announced that beyond financial support, the bank will also introduce a Financial Fitness Academy for recruits at the school. The programme would equip them with basic financial literacy skills, including how to manage their income, savings, and spending as they transition into professional life after graduation.

“We believe that a disciplined officer should also be financially fit. Before they pass out, we want to help them understand how to handle their money, make informed decisions, and build financial stability,” he said.

Receiving the cheque, ACP William Yankee Acolatse, Commander of the Ho Police Training School, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Stanbic Bank for its timely support.

He noted that the school had long struggled with inadequate infrastructure, especially a suitable parade ground. “The original parade ground has been in use since the establishment of this school in August 1961. It is no longer conducive for drills or official ceremonies,” he explained.

“We took the initiative to construct a new one, and we reached out to institutions for help. We are deeply grateful to Stanbic Bank for responding significantly.’ He also acknowledged the longstanding relationship between the bank and the Ghana Police Service, recalling Stanbic Bank’s sponsorship of awards during recruit graduation ceremonies in the past.

“We hope this partnership continues to grow stronger. The support we receive today will go a long way in improving the training experience for recruits and uplifting the image of the Ghana Police,” he added. The new parade ground, once completed, is expected to significantly enhance ceremonial training and drills, contributing to the overall effectiveness of police education and professionalism at the institution.
