On January 23, 2026, the CODE4FOOD Security Programme was officially launched at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE), aimed at empowering 70 young Ghanaians through digital skills to tackle food security challenges.

The event commenced with remarks from key officials. Ms. Aurore Rusiga, WFP Country Director, emphasized the importance of leveraging technology to address real-world agricultural challenges, stating, “Our expectation goes beyond learning to code. It is about applying technology to solve real challenges faced by farmers, agribusinesses, and communities.”

Hon. Samuel Nartey George, Ghana’s Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, highlighted the alignment of the program with Ghana’s strategic vision, asserting, “This initiative speaks directly to Ghana’s strategic vision of deploying digital innovation to drive inclusive national transformation.”

Mr. Dong-hyun Lee, Country Director of KOICA, echoed the urgency of the initiative, stating, “Food security means that all people, at all times, should have access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food. Young people are creative and innovative at using digital tools to solve social problems.”

The CODE4FOOD Security Programme is positioned as a vital step in building Ghana’s capacity to engage youth in addressing food security issues while paving the way for future leaders in the digital agricultural sector. The collaboration among WFP, KOICA, and the Blossom Heights Foundation reinforces a collective commitment to empowering the nation’s youth through innovative solutions in agriculture.
