The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Qatar has announced plans to organise assisted road departures for Ghanaian nationals who wish to leave the country.

In a notice released on March 8, 2026, the Embassy said the move follows an earlier advisory issued on March 6 and forms part of efforts to support Ghanaians seeking to exit Qatar through overland travel.

The mission indicated that logistical arrangements are currently underway to facilitate the process for those who urgently want to depart the country by road.

“Further to the notice issued by the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Qatar on 6th March, 2026, the Embassy wishes to inform that it is making arrangements for assisted departure options for Ghanaians seeking to leave Qatar by road,” the statement noted.

Ghanaians interested in taking advantage of the arrangement have been asked to formally express their interest by contacting the Embassy via email at doha@mfa.gov.gh.

The development comes amid rising diplomatic concern following a recent missile attack on Ghanaian peacekeepers serving under a United Nations mission in Lebanon.

On March 6, which coincided with Ghana’s 69th Independence Day celebrations, Ghanaian troops deployed in Lebanon were struck by a missile attack, leaving several soldiers injured.

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, confirmed that the government has formally petitioned the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, to launch an investigation and impose sanctions on those responsible.

Speaking during the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting in London, Mr. Ablakwa revealed that some of the injured peacekeepers had undergone surgery following the attack.

The Ghanaian government has also urged member states of the Commonwealth of Nations to strongly condemn the assault on UN peacekeepers, warning that such incidents threaten international peacekeeping operations and weaken multilateral cooperation.

The Embassy in Doha says it will continue to keep the Ghanaian community in Qatar updated as preparations for the assisted departure arrangements progress.
