Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that the Congressional Black Caucus has fully endorsed Ghana’s proposed United Nations resolution to classify the transatlantic slave trade as a crime against humanity.

The development follows an earlier statement by John Dramani Mahama, who revealed plans to present the resolution before the United Nations General Assembly on March 25, 2026.

Speaking from Washington, D.C., Ablakwa described the endorsement as a significant boost to Ghana’s diplomatic efforts ahead of the expected vote. He expressed appreciation for the caucus’ unanimous backing, noting that it strengthens Ghana’s campaign on the global stage.

According to him, the support further energises the country’s broader push for reparatory justice linked to the transatlantic slave trade.

Ablakwa added that discussions with the caucus also centred on building a more structured and lasting partnership between Ghana, the African Union, and U.S. lawmakers to advance shared interests, including justice and restitution.

He also conveyed gratitude to caucus chair Yvette D. Clarke and other members, including a U.S. legislator of Ghanaian descent, for their support.

With all sides aligned, Ghana is now gearing up for March 25, when it hopes to secure the adoption of the landmark resolution at the United Nations.
