The Ghana Football Association has dismissed Black Stars head coach Otto Addo after a run of disappointing results in recent international friendlies.
The decision follows consecutive losses to Austria and Germany, bringing the team’s losing streak under his leadership to four matches.
Addo’s exit comes at a crucial period, as Ghana steps up preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The Black Stars have been placed in a challenging group featuring Panama, England, and Croatia.
Meanwhile, Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has admitted that the country is not fully ready for the tournament but assured that efforts are underway to improve preparedness.
Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV, he explained that preparations extend beyond on-field performance to include national branding and promotional efforts.
He also disclosed that the government has allocated approximately $30 million for Ghana’s World Cup campaign, covering logistics such as accommodation, training, feeding, player bonuses, and international promotional activities.
The Ghana Football Association is expected to name either an interim technical team or a new head coach in the coming days as preparations intensify.
