Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has been named the Overall Best Technical University Innovator at the 4th Applied Research Conference of Technical Universities of Ghana (ARCTUG 2026), further strengthening its reputation as a leader in research, innovation, and applied knowledge generation in Ghana.

The achievement follows TTU’s recognition by the AD Scientific Index as Ghana’s highest-ranked technical university for three consecutive years, reflecting its growing impact in research productivity, scientific influence, and academic excellence.

TTU also dominated several individual award categories. Dr. Aba Atta Eyison won the award for Agriculture, Applied Sciences and Sustainable Innovation, while Francis Bukari and Fuseini Harawi received top honours in Artificial Intelligence, Digital Transformation and Inclusive Education in TVET. Additionally, Prof. Bruce Amartey emerged winner in the Creative Arts, Tourism and Cultural Industries for Sustainability category.

The awards were presented during the ARCTUG 2026 Dinner and Awards Night held at the Essipong Grove Resort in Takoradi. The event brought together vice chancellors, researchers, industry leaders, policymakers, students, and other stakeholders from Ghana’s ten technical universities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Justice Amoh, who co-chaired the event, described it as a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and excellence within Ghana’s technical university sector. He praised researchers and innovators for their contributions to national development and called for stronger partnerships between academia and industry to bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical workplace experience.

The Chairman of the Vice Chancellors of Technical Universities-Ghana, Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, highlighted the importance of ARCTUG as a platform for promoting applied research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology transfer. He emphasized that technical universities must continue generating practical solutions to support sustainable national development through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

TTU Vice Chancellor, John Frank Eshun, attributed the university’s success to years of investment in research, innovation, staff development, and industry collaboration. He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to advancing solution-oriented research that contributes to Ghana’s development.

The Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee, Maame Efua Nkrumah, thanked participants and stakeholders for their support and praised the spirit of collaboration and knowledge-sharing that defined the five-day conference.

Held under the theme of strengthening applied research and innovation for sustainable development, ARCTUG 2026 provided a platform for researchers, innovators, industry practitioners, and policymakers to showcase practical solutions to contemporary development challenges.

For TTU, the overall award not only marks a successful hosting of the conference but also reinforces its status as one of Ghana’s foremost institutions in applied research, innovation, and technological advancement.
