At the Social Welfare area in Madina, engineers in safety gear have begun installing new wireless equipment on a Telecel Ghana mast as part of a nationwide network expansion programme aimed at improving connectivity and service quality.
The project marks the start of a major infrastructure upgrade designed to increase network capacity, reduce congestion, and deliver faster and more reliable internet services across Ghana.
The initiative follows assurances given earlier by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Patricia Obo-Nai, who indicated that significant network improvements would commence in the second quarter of the year.
According to the Director of Technology, Ebenezer Siebu, the company is deploying advanced technologies to ease traffic on busy data corridors and enhance user experience in high-demand areas such as Madina.
He explained that the upgrades will improve internet speeds, voice quality, and overall network reliability as data consumption continues to rise nationwide.
The expansion programme includes upgrades at more than 100 high-traffic sites this year, with over 1,000 additional sites scheduled for various levels of improvement across the country.
Safety officers from the company were present on-site to ensure strict adherence to operational and health standards during the installation process, which also involved contractors from Huawei.
Head of Networks, Anthony Sam, said the investment goes beyond technology, emphasizing that it is aimed at improving everyday connectivity experiences for customers.
Residents in Madina have already welcomed the development, with some expressing excitement about expected improvements in internet speed and service quality.
The upgrade forms part of Telecel Ghana’s broader network modernization drive, which has expanded its infrastructure from about 5,000 to approximately 9,000 sites nationwide since rebranding, positioning the company to meet growing digital demand and future technological needs.
