Accra Hearts of Oak have withdrawn from the 2026 GHALCA Top-4 Tournament, citing scheduling conflicts with the club’s existing programmes and preparations for the upcoming league season.
In a statement released on Tuesday, August 11, the Phobians said the dates for the tournament clash with previously agreed club programmes.
The club also expressed concern about the timing of the competition, which falls close to the start of the new league season and could affect its preparations and other commitments.
Hearts of Oak said they had earlier approached the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) to request a change to the tournament schedule to enable them to participate.
However, the club said the discussions did not result in a change to the dates.
“After careful consideration, the Club has therefore decided that withdrawing from the tournament is the most appropriate course of action at this time,” Hearts of Oak said.
The club thanked GHALCA for its efforts in organising the 2026 Top-4 Tournament and wished the association and the participating clubs well.
Hearts of Oak also stressed that its decision would not affect its relationship with GHALCA, reaffirming its commitment to continued collaboration with the association and the wider Ghanaian football community.
The withdrawal is a major blow to the tournament, with Hearts of Oak being one of Ghana’s most prominent clubs and a side expected to attract significant interest to the competition.
Club management said the decision was reached after careful consideration of its existing commitments and the timing of the tournament.
