The preservation of the rich Ghanaian heritage and promoting the preservation of our folklore is of great significance, it is against this backdrop that the Ghana Folklore Board (GFB) in collaboration with Ghanaian rapper and Songwriter Trigmatic organized the Children’s Folklore Fun Day.

The program which was at the forecourt of the food arena at the Accra mall, brought together Children from all over Accra and beyond to have fun the local way.

There was an exhibition of local herbs, spices and other items. There was also a display of the Adinkra symbols and their meanings.

There were series of activities such as face painting , story telling, local video games, maze hunt, and some indigenous traditional games like the  Oware,  Ludu, Sansakroma , among others which made the program an eventful one for the children.

A maze was made from palm fronds with some ushers at various intersections to quiz children about folklore and at the end of the maze everyone received a gift from Papa Bronya beautifully adorned with a kente cloth seated at the end of the maze instead of a  Santa Claus.

The essence of the maze was to teach children and parents important lessons about the Ghanaian culture and their identities as Ghanaians, Acting Director of the Ghana Folklore board, Miss Diamond said in an interview with myghanadaily.com.

She further reiterated the board’s commitment to promoting the cultural heritage of the country and also said that they specifically planted a ‘papa bronya‘ at the end of the maze instead of a Santa Claus because Santa belongs to the western world and that we as Ghanaians should not import the western culture.

Also speaking about the project, Ghanaian rapper, song writer and Philanthropist, Enoch Nana Yaw Oduro- Agyei, known in the music circles as Trigmatic mentioned that  telling our own stories was the way forward to promote our culture and teach the younger generations as well.

He also called on individuals and cooperate bodies to support the National Folklore Board to carry out more projects to put Ghana out there.
