The High Court has sentenced Richard Appiah, a footballer and draughtsman convicted of murdering two children in Abesim in the Bono Region, to life imprisonment.
The ruling follows a unanimous guilty verdict delivered by a seven-member jury on two counts of murder. The victims, aged 12 and 15, were killed in 2021 in a case that shocked the community and attracted nationwide attention.
Appiah had been on trial since 2022 before Justice Ruby Aryeetey.
The case emerged in August 2021 when police in Abesim, near Sunyani, arrested Appiah after the bodies of two boys were discovered in his residence.
During proceedings, the prosecution presented evidence linking him to the killings. Despite delays in the trial, including juror-related adjournments, the jury ultimately returned a unanimous guilty verdict.
Justice Aryeetey subsequently sentenced Appiah to life imprisonment, reflecting the seriousness of the offence.
