The High Court (Accra) has granted bail to New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe after he was previously remanded in custody over charges of false publication.
He appeared before the court for a bail application hearing, with his legal team led by former Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame.
During proceedings, defence counsel urged the court to grant bail pending trial, a request which the prosecution, represented by Deputy Attorney-General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, did not oppose.
The court subsequently set bail at GH¢100,000 with two sureties. It also directed Abronye to report to the Police CID every two weeks, surrender his travel documents, and seek permission before travelling outside the jurisdiction.
His earlier remand had drawn criticism from some members of the NPP and legal commentators, who argued it infringed on his constitutional rights. However, the presiding judge explained that the decision was influenced by concerns that the accused could potentially reoffend if released immediately.
The case is expected to continue as trial proceedings progress.
